You are a mouse. You really value your sleep, so you went into space for the quiet. But some rude cat, as cats are, is breaking the laws of reality, as cats do... He's playing his congas, and making a racket... you're gonna SILENCE him.

As A Mouse is a physics based puzzle game. Use your slingshot to knock the cat unconscious. You will need to employ a number of devices, sharpen your accuracy, and beware of your timing.

This is my first game jam and overall first ever actual publish of a game. Members of the GDFG community might know me as Cringe, but I am a new face, so maybe not.

I know that there is much more that could have been done to improve the experience, and perhaps I will update this in the future. I simply have never published to Itch.io before and wanted to make sure I crossed the finish line more than anything.

Timeline: I started working on As A Mouse... on September 12th 2024, the day after the Jam announcement. I Spent about an hour to three hours per day since then for about 2 weeks, give or take some days off.

Post Publishing Thoughts: My primary skill is programming. Everything is written in GDScript, using the Godot Game Engine. I have used a number of engines, and this one just feels good to me. I am no designer, nor am I an artist, but that doesn't stop me from trying. I do however recognize, now, that the pixel art was created with too few pixels in mind, which makes it hard to see in some cases as well as distorts the pixels. I'm not exactly sure how to solve this issue, so feel free to share any tips!

(Update 1.0) 9-26-2024:

  • Brightened Trajectory Line
  • Prevented Rapid Fire, which fixed a bug that resulted in locking mouse invisible
  • Created more dynamic despawn for stone. Now it must be below a certain velocity before the despawn, but the despawn is now shorter.
  • Added High Score saving
  • Updated/Added SFX
  • Fixed "infinite cat swat"
  • Locked levels behind progression system
  • Created Start Screen rather than just jumping to level 1
